My group the Cloud Kollektiv has been playing for the outdoor cinema gigs at Luna. I got a crew of rockers together for the launch of This Might Get Loud a doco about The Edge, Jack White and Jimi Page. Cain Turnley on guitar, Hugh on bass, Ivan on keys and myself on beats and tweaky stuff. We had one jam then did the gig on Jan the 20th 2010. It kinda went off:

Oh, well back to the soundtrack writing. I'm currently doing a theme for Kooey swimwear and some new soundtracks for Visible Dance. I'll post some snippets. I'm definitely inspired by Massive Attacks new album and Trentemøller's 'The Last Resort' album. Brilliant.

When something inspires or moves me I put it on my blog. Now this story may seem really geeky, but I feel it. It' a great story for a time with the first black American president. I have to admit to being a little inspired by President Obama. His speech before he got elected about the down trodden where he talks about white homeless was powerful.

I haven't posted for a little while as I have been busy working full-time (boring) as the audio tech specialist at Billy Hyde Music (not so boring). I'm still on muso time and not coping with the lack of sleep too well. I have heaps of great projects on the go, but hardly any time to do them. Recently I was asked to compose 4 hours of ambient music for a series of tantric sex meditations CDs (Ooh yeah, baby!). I couldn't refuse. Playing with synths is something that Trilbies do best.

I have gone through a few cheap watches, so I decided to get a decent one. After some thorough research I found one, but first here is some of the research. Most are utterly unobtainable. Click to enlarge:

I ended up getting a watch by the Swiss company Wenger (the maker of the original Swiss army knife). The main reason being that It was a great deal. The rrp was US$350 and I got it for AU$150 delivered (AU$45 of that being shipping). It's a decent, reliable Swiss chrono. I was wanting something more chunky but I also wanted something formal, so this would be my formal watch. Here is a pic:

I work on a lot of electronic music. This brilliant documentary explained a lot about where it all came from and why I like it so much.

Who needs religion, when you have balls
This bit of community art for Christmas has had a good effect on everyone. It's simple and moving.

Last but not least, some MIND BENDING music from the beloved 'Rodrigo y Gabriela'. They take a track or so to warm up, but by about 4:30 they are on another planet. Really groovy.

A Different Perspective

I find myself working with a really different kinds of musicians (Indian, classical, harp, Latin percussion...). For some reason we find each other. Maybe it's the search for something new or that we are isolated and seek fellow freaks of music. Personally, I am always looking for a different perspective

When I was a kid, I heard this track and it changed everything. The only station at the time was 96FM (rock/pop) and RTR community radio didn't reach Fremantle where I grew up. I don't know where I got it, but I managed to get a copy on cassette and it started my passion for deep electronic music. It was a new perspective.

I have had to come up with some pretty big creative concepts lately for the new Visible Dance soundtrack with a string section and some abstract mixes. I find I am getting more inspired by unrelated things. Like seeing a poster and it inspiring me to write a melody. For example here are some images that inspired me, for what I call 'Red Music':

Ahh, you've got to love Imogen Heap. She is brilliantly nuts, all the best ones are. I don't think I could trust a woman who was totally sane. It's a bit like someone who always seems happy. Anyway, Imogen rocks.

Recently I mastered a brilliant album by Steve Richter and Josh Hogan under the group name of 'Taal Naan'. We went through several generations of production the get the sound right. It was exploration of dynamics, space and frequencies. Basically we were finding a sound for the album. I did a bit of research to get my head around these complex percussion based pieces. I remember watching a deaf marimba and vibes player on Letterman one evening. It blew my mind, so I tracked down some of her work (gotta love the net). Then I found this great talk on TED:

Here is something deep and meaningless, or maybe not. It's a collaboration by Walt Disney and Slavador Dali that has just been completed based on their initial work, storyboards and sketches.

Welcome. It's been a while but I am making an effort to post more often. I have been reeling from my new job and all the music mixing I'm doing. I just have to plan my time. Get my multitasking mojo into action. Sigrid is going to a wedding in Venice for the next month, so this will give me time to get my business sorted and my ToDo's done. When she gets back I should be action Trilby (ahem, I mean drillbit).

For starters as promised HERE is a new track from my group Cloud Kollektiv featuring Samanta Ray on vocals, Paul Hines on guitar and I did all the rest.

I am currently getting a string section together for a live performance with the Visible Dance company (that I am musical director of). The line-up is Smitch on harp, Brian Kruger and Jessica Yeh on Violins and Tristen Par on cello. This will be an adventure. I promise to do a regular gig (sans dance company) with these guys and more of the Cloud Kollektiv. The show is in September.

This is what radio should be. An excellent selection of music of from all over the world. It seems to have a flow. The chances of hearing a song you have heard before is very low. It's constant interesting fresh music. That's what I'm talking about.

Some serious Cyber Punk action in this movie preview. Some of these independent productions are getting to an an amazing standard. The sound is great too.

Finishing off I will continue my series of beatbox fixations, here is the current UK beatbox masters live at the Googleplex in London. A great show, really bloody entertaining. By the end you will be laughing up a storm. Brillant!

We Are Hunted on Facebook

I post this for a few of my friends who have had some relationship troubles on Facebook. This great little video pretty much spells it out. It also reminds me of the new tv show 'Mad Men', which I dig.

There is a heap of new music sites around these days. For the listener it's great, for the new musician it's fantastic (free distro) but for the record label it's hell. The times they are a changin'.
Here is an ingenious new site, 'WeAreHunted'. They analyse what's being talked about on forums, DIGG, Google and the internet in general, then create a top 9. The tracks are really interesting. This is not your old top 10, this is the now 9. It changes daily. Click the pic for the site.

I have been mixing quite a lot bands doing electro disco with an 80's vibe lately (notably SheSelexx, Brash & Sassy and Digital Dolls). Here is a video of electro at it's best, an uplifting new tracks from Royksopp and Robyn live from Norwegian TV. Ride that disco pony Robyn! That's some bloody good pop.

Since finishing at the record store I have been searching out new tunes and finding them. There are billions of brilliant DJ mixes online. My fav site is alldj.org Honestly the good stuff is online, go get it.

I'll post some of my mixed tracks soon, I just have to finish about 20 of them first then I'll do a little dj mix of them.

It's all coming together (with Glue)

Every time I get on the computer I have work to do so my blog hasn't had as much attention, but I have been collecting interesting things. Here is enough crazy stuff to last all week.

I have been changing it up recently. I moved from my long time indulgent job at Urban Records to an even more indulgent job at Billy Hyde Music as their resident audio tech guru (more of a disciple at the moment). So I used to sell music, now I sell tools for making it.

David Scharpf and I have continued to write even though he is in Vienna touring with a big funk band. Aint' the Internet grand. We have a heavy metal remix and a doco soundtrack on the go, as well as an experimental tracks with Violinist Jessica Yeh.

Finally the software I have been heavily beta testing for the last year and a half is coming out from Andrew Simper's company 'Cytomic' and Fxpansion. Andy ended up using my name idea and calling his mastering compressor 'The Glue'. I am currently going crazy with the synth programming, creating sounds for Fxpansion's awesome D.CAM SynthSquad (the guts of which are also written by Andy). The problem I have is that I keep writing new grooves with sounds I create instead of spending all my time writing more sounds. Preliminary info HERE

Most of the people I work with communicate online now, so I am online heaps. My laptops WiFi is great and even my phone does decent internet. I bumped into this the other day. It has to be one of the greatest Ali G interviews. The man is a genius and I have to give a bit of vibe to Posh Spice, she's a bit cute in this.

For people who think sampling isn't music, you have to listen to this. Kutiman has taken the art of mashup to a new level. This is a track made of clips off YouTube. Make sure you hear the end it's surprising and quite moving.

Last but not least. This guy really PLAYS the piano. I love it. It's more about cathartic expression than actual notes. He is playing with sound and texture not just complex notes. Like a modern Sun Ra but brilliant instead of novelty. I'm intrigued to hear Cloud Kollektiv keys players David Scharpf and Brian Kruger's opinions on this one.

My January is coming together nicely. Firstly I'm DJ'ing at Southbound from the 2nd till 4th, doing a groovy, dubby, souly set (settee). My DJ name is 'Trilby Of The Cloud'. I need a logo with a cloud wearing a Trilby hat. Might make a t-shirt, he heh.

Next I have a Cloud Kollektiv gig at Kulcha on the 1oth. I still have to get a crew together for that one. I have the core but I need a keys player and maybe some more vocals. Samanta Ray gets back from touring Europe, and it sounds like she is on fire and inspired.

After that I think I'm heading to the outback to teach aboriginal communities to write hip-hop with MC Joe Black. That should be an adventure. It's like Chuck D and Flava Flav on the road. I suppose it's the musician equivalent of working the mines up north.

WAMI's for the Cloud, lets dance.

Well, WE WON!
Both Cafe and Dance/Electronic catagories of the WAMI Song Of The Year 2008. With Samanta Ray's tune 'Revien' and Cle's track 'Realising'. Sam is in Europe and Cle had a gig she couldn't get out of, so a gang of drunk Cloud boys picked up the awards. After the first award we drank pints in celebration and by the second we were a bit slurry (well, I was). It was a fun night for all. Paul, David and I went on to find a gig to party at, but Fremantle seems to close at 12pm. here is the evidence.
I was hoping to get a copy of the photos, but it's taking too long so here is a dodgy clip from the Xpress magazine from the 16 of October 2008.

Orchestral manouvers in the spring

Lately I have been mixing heaps of music. This doesn't make a very interesting blog so here are some photos of the things I did in between.

Australia does not have a long fascinating history or a rich complex culture. One thing Australia has ample amount of is beautiful natural surroundings. It's spring and the wild flowers are out. These shots were taken within a space of about 200 meters. Such variety and colour in a country with so much desert.

I recently got a new Nokia E71 mobile. I had been waiting for the iPhone to see if it was any good and frankly it's not. I was not impressed so I bought the new sexy messaging smart phone from Nokia. The iPhone's battery life is abysmal and I found the on screen keyboard to be terrible. There is also heaps missing from it and it doesn't let you just chuck files on it (no expandable memory). There were just too many problems in my book. I can bluetooth or USB my E71 to any computer and put video, PDF, word, iTunes audio files on it and it plays and read them. Simple.
Also the advanced messaging and push email is great. I get my Gmail to my phone as it comes in. It's also crazy thin.

Sig and I went to the Menage' concert a week ago. It was a stylish event. An orchestra played the score to an old B&W Hitchcock film. After mixing so much music it is always great to hear it acoustic, live in front of you. It gives you perspective.

Let the show begin.

Tomorrow we perform with the contemporary dance company Visible Dance. The show is called 'Reaction' and the music has been written by David Scharpf and myself. It was an intense writing/mixing session. I haven't had much sleep, but I'm happy with my work. This has also been in sync with the WAMI's Song Of The Year competition that I have been mixing heaps of bands for. Big gigs for the Cloud

There hasn't been a lot of time to blog as I'm currently mixing eight tracks for the WAMi's and writing a collection of pieces for the Visible Dance company's first show on the 20th. Both these gig are pretty damn sweet. Thousands of asians/indian people going off to our tracks and a stunning group of dancers dancing to every pulse of my soundtrack. it's all good stuff.

I love this shit. It's where my brains at with all these mixes I'm doing for the WAMi's and stuff. I just counted, I am doing 9 mixes including writing a 15 min soundtracks for Visible Dance. Taking it all on.

A great indulgent synth interview with Adrian Utley from Portishead.
The discussion about tuning (or more to the point, not tuning). Also the point about layering, I'm moving against it. Pure sounds that say what they mean. Spending more time on the source and the original idea and less time fucking around with it afterwards. Sounds funny me saying that, if you know my production.

Moody shots & misses

The Cloud Sessions have been a very creative trip for the Cloud Kollektiv. It's more like a writing session. We jam a heap of grooves and jus follow them. So many great musicians.

HERE is an MP4/AAC (iTunes) file of one of the tracks with Cle, Joe Black and Jeremy Balius on vocals.

It was recorded on a little Zoom H2 handheld recorder that was sitting in front of the band. This was an improvised jam that creates enough hooks for several tracks.

My gal Sig is off in Austria seeing her friends and family. Miss her heaps. It's a pity she is missing the Cloud Sesh. Oh, well I will have to organise some more later in the year. There will be a big night at Luxe with the Visible Dance company in August and the Cloud will be playing a Masala Mix dance party with heaps of crazy dancing Indians. Should be awesome.

OMG! I'm so busy

I have taken on a role as a soundtracks producer for a new dance company as well as starting a new club night for the Cloud Kollektiv. Of course people have detected my industriousness and are now asking for other things like CD covers, remixes, mastering and studio work.

She Selexx had a little gig that was quite stylish and will be having another with the dance company on Wednesday at their premier. My gal Sig is heading off to Vienna once again but has held off her flight and will be able to get some shots of the gig. All those great bodies, who could miss it. Click the poster top poster to check it out in fill. it printed really nicely. It's good when you have time to let a design idea evolve. The Cloud Kollektiv logo and colour scheme has evolved nicely.

Here is the first vid from Visible Dance with a rough track from She Selexx. The next ones are really exciting. It's great having your music so thoroughly expressed and being able to write to such rhythmic expression. The communication is very good.

I have been hanging out for this album. Geoff Barrows has been living in Sydney. I remember seeing a photo of Geoff and Beth Gibbons in sunny Sydney and the line below the photo was 'this is really going to fuck with their music, how are they supposed to get moody'. The world is changing for the better. There is an overall awareness that is being formed via the internet. This video shows how the US communication companies could once again destroy the freedom we are creating. In Australia we have seen similar behaviour from Telstra.
A new technology needs to be created that bypasses the telcos. This may seem nerdy and frivolous, but it's not. Third world countries are being empowered by the internet. Brilliant small bands are being recognised globally without any major label interference, via the web. Peoples voices are being heard. This is important.

It's soundtracks week for me.

● I have been commissioned to mix an ambient piece with Mel Robinson (Cello) and Steve Richter.

● She Selexx has been asked to build a soundtracks for a dance company. MORE INFO

● She Selexx track 'We Go Out In The Summer' has had interest from US TV for soundtracks.

I also did an all-nighter to do this remix for the ABC classical opera remix competition. It was quite fun. You can download the MP3 and have a listen.

I just played the Good Vibrations Festival with She Selexx. It was pretty massive. We were videoed in HiDef and shown on some massive screens as well as getting on channel 9 News. We played the new tracks well, but had a bit of a hard time rocking out as the foldback was a bit quiet. People said we sounded great. A decent first gig for She Selexx, methinks.This video from the 80's cracked me up. Talk about keyboard technique. Sun Ra is the man ;)

I have always been into old soundtracks from the 60's. Batman, John Barry, James Bond, Beatnik movies, Westerns... When I was in London with my band ARG I loved the late night TV and sampled heaps of it into my old ASR10 sampler. I would sit up late waiting for some Hammer horror or rare late 50's Sci-Fi. So this site is a complete gold mine for me. A true fetish satisfier.

Internet killed the video star

Not really, it just sounded good. I know that in Australia at least traditional video are not being made as much for TV. YouTube viral videos are another matter. We are in the transition from CDs to MP3s and TV video clips to YouTube viral clips. Here is a video that uses some of that light writing style mixed with that Matrix multi camera 3D technology. It's a dope track too.

While I'm on the subject HERE are the top videos of 2007 as selected by Rolling Stone. Also check out THIS graffiti art site. Art is seriously being taken away from the establishment and getting online and on the street. Good times.

I finally got my German Adam A7 studio monitor and they are sweeeet! So solid and clear. Worth the dosh definitely. Now I have a heap of mixing to do. Ahh, how quickly new toys become tools. Might watch a few movies first, though. Yeah.

I love the Deco styling of this 1958 futurist film by Disney. Somehow Deco is always in. Some of this design is actually quite hip. Maybe it's so dated that it's hip.

I have nearly 8Gb of storage on my keyring. Enough space for a decent sized school library. I can translate, look up, read mail, buy things and watch porn from my mobile phone. It's funny how the little things have advanced massively but the big stuff hasn't. There are no super duper highways, jetpacks, smart cars, robot companions or space colonizing. Are we micro managing more or are the little things more important. Maybe we are just getting more petty. Of course now I have 8Gb of storage on my keyring the last thing I want is a library of books to read on it. I mean, really, who has time for that shit.

A bit of suspense

I have been waiting with baited breath for my new Adam A7 studio monitor speakers to come from Germany. I could have got them from Sydney but they would have cost me even more, so I am getting them direct from the distributor with a studio friends who is getting five (surround setup for film composition), this way we can get them for a few hundred dollars less.
I am also mixing a heap of Cloud Kollektiv stuff for our gig on the 8th. So that we have an EP for people to take away. We have heaps of grooves but most are only a minute or two long. So I am working these tracks into a extended mix of cloudiness. It's sounding great but I wish I was mixing on the Adam A7's not my old Tannoy speakers.

Here's some new/old Hitchcock, directed by Martin Scorsese. Great stuff. Pity he doesn't go with it and make the full film. Very stylish. Note the Australian lead role.

Groovy Gig & Google Gives

Preperation for the next Cloud Kollektiv gig on December the 8th is accelerating. I'm mixing Cle's tracks and have all the singers signed on for the gig. We hace Cleonie Wootton (soul), Simon Kelly (warm folk) and Amit Diwadkar (traditional Indian). Now we just have to jam the grooves.

Here is what the iPhone should have been. Google rocks! It's open source all the way and Google are putting up $10million for anyone to write an innovative app for a phone running Googles Android operating system. This is going to be interesting.

Sig and I had a ball at the Italian Film Festival opening night at Paradiso Cinema and the Bakery. We heard live opera in the cinema then saw a hot flick called 'The Manual Of Love 2' and received a little show bag (with a bottle of Frangelico) and went on to the Bakery and drank ourselves silly, Great people, great night.The vibes are happening in the Cloud Kollektiv. The first jam with Cle was great fun. We will be performing the track for the first time at the WAMI Song of the Year Awards

Well, we did it. The first gig for the Cloud Kollektiv was a great success. The Velvet Lounge was jam packed and the applause was awesome. Sound was great, the Deuce crew were totally happening and the unexpected video art really worked with the show. Big thanks to Simon Kelly for doing the Cloud dub mix of his track 'Cloud On The Corner'.

Our next gig is at the WAMI Song Of The Year on October the 31st at the Fly-By night club. A very prestigious night indeed for a second gig.

Here is a 7 minute MP4/AAC mix of a few of the more finished tracks I'm writing/producing at the moment. None of them have been properly mastered (just my vague mastering). They are works in progress...excuses, excuses, yadda yadda..

I just wrote the beat for Simon's track and am really happy with it. I got that compressed BOOM BAP! sound. I layered snare sounds and grabbed the feel from a fusion drum solo for the high hats. It's simple, but finely sculpted. It's important to write tracks for mastering. If you have an idea of what will happen to the track in the mastering process then it will come out sweeter in the end and not need much.
SheSelexx's tracks are a whole more complex beast, layers of subtle guitars. I'm slowly working out how to keep the mix simple from the start so my head doesn't iexplode at the end of the mix. So many guitars, vocals and drum layers make things rich, but are hard to balance.

Cloud Kollektiv stuff is just indulgent. This groove evolved from a jam and I have kept it as crazy jazzy shit. Good shit. The next track I think will be one of our more solid club grooves. Now that we are working with singers, we will have to start structuring. Hopefully we can keep it free and groovy.Here are some pics of me with friends at a dub gig at The Bakery

I am always inspired by PostSecret. It's just beautiful. A place on the net where people can be sensitive delicate raw volatile, honest. There was another site that had a similar vibe but was more direct, called Serendipity Chat. This site had a similarly simple premise. You go there with a webcam setup and chat to someone in the world. That's it. I spoke to a girl in Japan who was studying commerce and a guy in Puerto Rico who was quite funny. It gave me confidence in humanity.

So if 80's Nintendo is Cocaine then the Nintendo Wii is definitely Extacy. It makes you dance around and get fit, grind your teeth in anxiety and stare at the pretty lights. I went to a Wii party (that name is SOoo! wrong) and we didn't really have time to drink or take drugs. We were too busy limbering up and preparing for the next round. The next day my arms were sore. How dare they try to make geeks fit, I mean really! I have to say it was also a bit trippy playing computer games with a 50/50 male female crowd. Half the time your watching the person jump around like an idiot. Yeah, and being an idiot is cool.

I found these guys through a HipHop music production forum. They are really into new media business models. Here is an interview with some film producers that created a system to find out what cities wanted to see their movie. There is also a cool interview with MC Hammer (really!). click on the YouTube logo to go to the other 'Internet Celebrities' Vidcasts.

Now this is dope. Through my infinite search for rare loops I chatted on forums to LaiF, who has made his own video. It's brilliant, totally real and hell funky.

The artists are out there making it happen. The difference is that the media is not CDs and TV (that are controlled by the labels) it's the web. Get into it!

Productive producer kept unkempt!

It's funny. When I am doing heaps of great creative work I have less web presence because I don't have time to update websites and blogs. Well, today I still have heaps of projects to finish but I feel a need to exist (online). I have also been promising people a preview of some of the mixes I have been working on.

Simon Kelly is an up and coming acoustic songwriter that has a cool layered vocal tone and is up for some crazy studio experimentation. I like the idea of doing a DJ Shadow meets JoseGonzalez style track and so does he. Cool, huh?
First off I'm remixing a groove of his called 'Cloud On The Corner'. Note the unkempt look of the studio producer. HERE is a preview of the first track.

Jasmin and Frans are getting me to work on a studio album. As the core writers of the indi band Halogen they have a lot of song writing experience to bring to the table. It's great because they bring in complete songs with just vocals and layers of guitars. It makes my job a lot easier. Together we have a lot of creative power. We just have to decide how to use it (for good or evil). Jaz wanted a gay disco track, so I referenced pet Shop Boys and New Order and went for a indi guitar disco track. All the instrumental sounds are Frans's guitars through mad effects. The only synth is the sub bass (done on a secret synth I am beta testing for Andy at FXpansion-London). HERE is a demo mix of 'Terrible Romance'.

Balvinder Singh, David Scharpf & I have a big project with no name. We have written and produced at least an album worth of dubby jazzy tracks. We are now involving different vocalists in subtle ways. As well as producing, Bal plays and studies tabla and sitar. David is a jazz keys player from Vienna. Together we write very fast, we just have a bit of trouble completing the tracks because every time we get together we write new ones. HERE is a mix of a few of the more dubby deep house ones. We have some heavier breaks/dub tracks as well and a bit of D&B/HipHop. As I said we have trouble not writing. It's a groovy scene man.

Crazy Theramins

I have always admired Theramins and people who can play them. I have had a go, but they are a bitch to play in tune. It takes incredible sense of pitch and subtle nuances of touch. One day I will get one and learn it's mystical art.

The way we interact with technology is just as important as the technology it's self. There have been lots of technologies that have been highly achieving technically but have given a bad user experience. The classic example is the MP3 player. Till the iPod came along they were not accepted into the popular culture. They were merely geek toys. With Apples design, user interface, software and promotion the general public could understand the MP3 player and thus wanted it. The iPhone I think will be a similar success, purely because Apple makes good GUI (Graphical User Interface). The technology is not that stunning but the impression it will give to the user will be of the software.

This brings me to the most amazing development in user interface. I am still excited about Google Maps and Earth, but this has incredible implication. Cyberspace, The Matrix, Virtual Reality seem so much closer all of a sudden. The idea that the virtual world creates itself with the data we all put into it. Truly inspiring. The implications are mind blowing. This is now! WATCH THIS VIDEO!

Steam Punk is a popular sci-fi concept that stylistically rebels against the common impression of technology and gives it a more classic hands on feel. Here are two steam punked computer parts. It's a Dell monitor and a classic old IBM click keyboard.

Singing

I'm a music producer/song writer that works with singers. I sing my melodies and then work them out quickly on the keyboard. I'm currently working with four different singers on different projects. Anyway, you get the idea. Vocals are an important part of what I do.

There is a singer that has inspired me recently. Ever since I heard her sing on a track on the 'Garden State' soundtrack, I have loved her tone. I didn't know who she was. The track was 'Let Go' from the group Frou Frou. I later found out this was a collaboration project and the singer was actually Imogen Heap.

I love the way she uses technology, too. I think singers should record themselves. They are best at taking their own criticism. The less emotional complexity in the writing process the better. A track should be a clear defined expression. Simple is good (says the over-producer)

These girls were obviously inspired by 'Let Go' as well.

Winter holidays and The Spanish Inquisition

Sigrid and I went on a short weekend holiday to Margaret River last week. We stayed at this cool studio (small challet) called 'Wood & Earth'. It was seriously indulgent. A beautiful place in the forrest near a field. We did have trouble leaving the 5 seater jakuzi. It was deliscious.

I know it sounds kind of boring but there is some crazy action happening in American politics. This link shows you one of the cadidates from Alaska in the running. "Tell me, Barack, who do you want to nuke?" classic stuff.

Electronic Musician Porn

I caught up with my good buddy Andrew Simper the other day, he popped in from London. It was great ot see him and his beautiful girlfriend Emma. We ate gourmet pizza on Cottesloe beach and drank champagne. There were a hoard of colourful rosella parrots having a party in the trees. I will update this post with some photos in a few days. This has nothing to do with the title of the post it was delightful, thats all.

Go with the 'Flow'

I really didn't have time. Deadlines were killing me, but there was this interesting concept for a game called 'Flow'.

Biologists will love this. The scene is a view of a petri dish through a microscope. You are an organism that must evolve. You start as a schematic of a little worm like amoeba. Then through eating other little amoeba you grow and also create your own siblings (that you will probably eat later). At the end of the level is the evolving gene. Once you eat this organism and get it's gene you evolve to the next species. Cool!

After playing for a while I felt so focussed and got heaps done (till 4am!). I recommend you download the full version and play it out of the browser.
For a more relaxing space, this game is like a meditation. It also has a more attainable goal. It's one of those seriously simple games. The simplicity is brilliant. The music is nice (all very New Age). this is a great example of a way to promote music and interactive art. Now for something completely different. Here is a crazy interactive animation with a strange lateral sense of humour. What does it all mean? Feel free to leave a message.

I have been producing the Overclockers Australia podcast and have written the theme song. So I am interested in the use of music in podcasts. the laws in the US have just got serious about music copyright in podcasts. Draw on the walls

This is the era of change, of lateral thinking. Especially for the tv & music industry and soon the film industry. New global business structures are being invented, but not by multinationals. By anyone with a good idea. Companies like Opera, Skype, Google are the obvious challengers to the old school, but there are other small companies trying out new ideas with all this free communication power. These are exciting times.

The trick is to take the power from the gate keepers. I know that sounds trippy and religious, but it's quite simple. The five record companies, the three big film studios are the gate keepers. They are the conservative filter that stops the crazy, risky new ideas getting through. Now, they can be bypassed by putting a video/music on YouTube or MySpace. The more accessible the art becomes the more power to the artists and the more interesting and fresh it is for the audience.

Just a thought.

This is another cool online sketch program. It simply enables you to draw in 3D and rotate the picture by going to the edges of the screen. It's nice.. not rude.

Sigrid and I went to the dance festival 'Good Vibrations' it was a blast. I didn't dance as much as I would have liked, but there was some groovy music. The main problem was the sound. The highlight would have been beatboxer Rhazel. man it was amazing what that guy can do. I looked forward to the Beastie Boys, but I couldn't hear the music, so it was just them yelling. not good. it supposedly got better but I went to the amphitheatre and got down to London Electricity which sounded fab!

Buenos Aires

The package from Buenos Aires musician Pablo Gimanez arrived today. International collaborations are so exciting.

The track is called 'Cecilia' and features the gorgeous sounding singer Cecilia Elias. It's a sexy summery Latin groove that will be a joy to remix and play with. It's great to be able meet such soulful musician and just work with them, easy. We hooked up this project through our MySpace pages. It's a beautiful thing.

Halogen Lightning

This is such a great photo (click to enlarge). This was taken at the Australia Day fireworks Skyshow on January the 26th 2007. It was a hot balmy night and there was some crazy lightning going on. It was as if the earth was saying 'You call that a skyshow, well check this out!". Even more impressive was when the massive fireworks barge in the middle of the river exploded. If you look closely at the middle of the photo you can see the Comet McNaught that was only visable in the southern skies. The photo is by Antti Kemppainen.

On other news, I am working on Perth band Halogen's new TripHop album. This should be fun. I have some of the grooves allready and they are dark and groovy. I'm adding a bit of Hip-Hop and tweaking the melodies a bit. I want singer Jasmin to record in her own studio and bring in crazy experiments for me to play with. More as it comes to hand. It has been an eventful week, full of success, doubts, affection, worries, the whole shabang. As I am not one to dwell and this is my inspiration blog I will mention the cool stuff. The bad stuff isn't very bad it's just insecurity, so forgettaboutit!

My new accomplis in musical espionage Mr Balvinder lent me his CDJ800 CD scratcher. As in Hip-Hop scratching not fingernails down blackboard. It is a serious tool for sound manipulation and sample searching. Hooked into my Numark DMX06 mixer with filters and effects it is a weapon not to be used lightly (as opposed to a pillow I suppose). Jeremy Balius is bringing over some vinyl and a deck and we are going to have a big sound making/finsind/destroying session. It's fun stuff.

Bal and I are writing at the speed of..um sound I suppose. Anyway we are getting deep into our mixes and really enjoying it. I have also been taking this new found creative freedom and trying out an idea I had a while ago of asking bands from MySpace if they wanted to collaborate on a remix or new track. I asked a great Latin Jazz group from Buenos Aires, Argentina if they would like a mix and they jumped at the chance. Their stuff is so rhythmically and melodically rich it will be easy for me to simplify and solidify into a cool club summery track. It's all about being inspired.

Oh, and the Res got nominated in the WAMi awards along with Pendulum and F'Del. Cool huh.

Stuff the iPhone, I want one of these. It's beautiful.

I'm excited! So is Eddie and Sig (left). I have so many plan for this year it's nearly daunting, but not quite. The excitement out ways the pressure. Jams with Indian muso Balvinder are going sweet, The Res has some great deals, I'm starting my business as a audio producer/multimedia guy. I have been asked to write music reviews. The trick it to do it all, just go for it and make it happen. Vibe is infectious. The more I do the more people will want to work with me. Definitley exciting times.

This site is great. It's the site of a photo retouch artist to the stars (well, the black American ones). He obviously works for a magazine. Here is a photo of the sunset on Cottesloe Beach in Perth, Western Australia. It had been a hot day (~38 degrees) and some random clouds rolled in, creating this great colour.

The new year hold many exciting adventures for me. I have begun work on some big gigs and am collaborating with some great musos. There could even be little international travel involved. I'll have to work hard, but now is the time. Things are falling into place quite nicely.

Gooey Secrets

I have only just discovered this blog called PostSecrets. It's one of those brilliant simple ideas. The internet is a great place lateral ideas to grow as it has very few limits. PostSecrets has helped lots of young people feel a bond and an acceptance for their worries and quirks. It's nice because it helps you feel like your not the only one that does petty little things. This was created on blogger and now this guy has books and millions of regular reader.

I like a good looking user interface (if you know what I mean ;-). One that can be changed with the mood of the user that animates in an efficient and sexy way. You wouldn't want your eyes to get obese from all that eye candy, now would you.

This is an interface for Linux. It's like an add on that renders the desktop, adding 3D and physical properties that help the user relate to the processes they are controlling on the computer. The music is made with Commodore64s. So geek.

Hmm.. GUI

Last but not least here is some Christmas cheer from Peanuts (the comic) and Scrubs (The TV program). I used to read snoopy when I was little along with Footrot Flats. Maybe I had a comic dog fixation. Hmm... and yet!

It's all very entertaining, but still has the flaw of most organized religions that everyone has to have the same beliefs. Everyone is different so this doesn't quite work for me. The vibe is right though. I need to read more to really comment. The concept is fun.

In a sense, open source is a religion in itself. A religion of giving. Giving information and knowledge. If you think of evolution and the idea that man is now evolving past his physical ability to change, using technology (eg. we can't remember everything so we write it in a book. Thus enhancing our memory abilities). This is a great gift to give, maybe the ultimate as it enables societies to form and develop. It also breaks down the power systems of multinational corporations. Hmm.. I'm getting a bit deep.

I have been beta testing a deceptively simple digital audio plugin for a mate in London working for big audio software company. It is a digital simulation of the bus compressor of a AU$500,000+ SSL mixing console. You can buy it separately in a rack module for AU$6000+. He has been putting it through it's paces and analyzing the way it manipulates sound, in a quest to recreate it in software. During these experiments last week he managed to blow it up. It's fucked. Next week the guys from SSL in the US are coming over to check his work to see if it gets the tick of approval. I have to say it is by far the best compression plugin I have tried. It does give things THAT sound. It really pumps. He said it doesn't sound 100% yet. Shit, if this is it sounding rough, I can't imagine what the final will sound like.

Biz stuff and sneakers

Evening,

I have begun business course that goes for a month. It's really quite hardcore. Actually it isn't, but I also have a million and one other things that I am doing. So going to a course from 9:30am-3:30pm weekdays and then homework is a bit much. Good practice for time management, but still intense. After the first week my sleep deficit is massive. The course is very inspiring though.

On more superficial matters (read: more interesting) here is a pic of my new limited edition K-Swiss sneakers I got in Sydney after a massive search. For more on the Sydney trip read the previous post below.

I have now set up a serious broadband audio link with my mate Micheal Pigneguy in Dubai. He went over there with his wife Anna and kids about three months ago. Anna is teaching music and Mike is setting up a composition studio and aiming to work on jobs from the UK. So, I have setup a cool broadband GoogleTalk system where I can control what goes to the listener on the other end. It's like being an online realtime DJ with effects. I'm hanging to have a go with the OCAU.com podcast. If they will let me. I chatted to Mike in Dubai and he was a bit spun out. I do need to get a better broadband service. I'm on 512kbps (about 60kb/second download) which is usable but my upload is only 128kbps (~15kb/second). It makes Skype/GoogleTalk calls dodgy and takes ages for me to send big files. With the OCAU podcast it took me nearly 1.5 hours to send all the files. Then there was an edit I had to make and thats another 1.5hrs. This is not very practical.

Back to my point. After chatting to MikeP and freaking him out with my mad DJ skills (;-p) I find that there is a big demand for people like me over there. Even though I do not speak the language. I like the idea of teaching and doing some audio production jobs for a 3 months hit and then coming back. Just little contracts. This would also fit into my business plan. Hmm.. contemplation. Of course I would have to find time and sync with other Res stuff. My initial biz plan is to do international projects from Australia, online. Ahh, it's all a concept.

OK, Bec and I just got back from MusicOz in Sydney. It was a crazytrip. I feel like I have weeks of sleep to catch up on. We didn't win the 'Dance Track of The Year', but we did get into the final five and it was a great excuse to adventure to Sydney. On the night Bec was late.
Our award was first up and I was seated. Bec got there with Erin just in time and her makup was great. ;-p They like to put dance and urban first to get them out of the way for all the billions of rock catagories. 'Dance' I mean really, it's one name for heaps of styles. Anyway enough bitching.

Bec and I clasp each others hand firmly as the award was read out. It was great to hear out track in a big concert hall. The rest of the tracks were four on the floor (doof, doof) so our track stood out. When we didn't win (a Euro techno track won, quit trashy from what I heard) I felt a great relief. I had this terrible feeling that I wouldn't know what to say, first award and all. Time to party, and we did.

I have been looking at a new audio mixer from M-Audio, the NRV10. I always get asked by people to recommend a sound card or mixer. This seems like a great combination of both. It has in built effects that you can control from VST plugins and it runs on Firewire. I'll wait for the reviews. M-Audio generally make good sound cards but aren't known for their mixers. If it's software upgradeable it could be a winner.

I set up a friends new Dell laptop (6400). It was an Intel Core Duo running at 1.83Ghz with an 80gb HD, firewire, 4 x USB2 and a gig of ram. He payed AUD$1600 for it and got a free laptop bag and printer. Damn! It totally shat on my computer for speed and the internal sound chip was pretty decent (20ms latency). Only problem was that his new PCMCIA sound card wouldn't fit because it had the new PCIe interface.

Seems strange to end this lively post on such a geeky note. Hmm, on my long trips I have been listening to heaps of podcasts lately. Here are some of my favs:

Sydney Pt.1

Trilby and Bec's Sydney adventures. Part 1.

Bec and I madly ventured to Sydney for the MusicOz awards in Sydney. We are in the finals of the dance catagory. It's like the Arias for unsigned acts. I have been walking a lot (did Oxford Street) and meeting heaps of friends I havn't seen for ages. the awards are tomorrow night. I think that deserves a post of it's own. Let the phone photos begin.

We arrive in Sydney. Bec is the troupadore with her guitar. Her man servant Marcel carries her bags. ;-p

Leanne really wanted to be there and was SMSing us every three minutes. If that happens at the awards I'm spamming her (lots of Viagra for Li).

I caught up with Trilby girl (Trilby Glover). She's so pretty. She just got a part in a sitcom with Melinda Messer from 'Will & Grace'. You go girl! Her cool boyfriend Paul is in the band 'Minder'. They have a Placebo/ thing going on. Great sounds.. and yes, Paul Trilby girl played me your old demo and I liked it. So Ner! You rock! We will talk.

Ya, I know. another shot of me with a gal. This gal happens to be one of my best buddies that havn't seen for ages (since she moved to Sydney, funnily enough). It's my distant cousin Britt. We unsuccessfuly went shoe shopping for some classy sneakers for me (I'm such a sneaker snob). Basically, they have some serious gourmet sneakers but they never get the rare ones in my size 13. (I'm talkin' carbon fibre, wood panelling, patent leather, emboidered...). So close, yet so far.
Last of all a pic of a cool dark red vase from my dear aunt Katherines beautiful house. She has taste, I must say. This is where I am staying from Sunday to Wednesday. I stayed at my beautiful friend Tanas place on Saturday.

The next part of the Sydney report will be done from Perth. The MusicOz awards are tomorrow night. I'm hoping my bro Kav will give me a few labels to visit tomorrow and I'll get all these cool demos out to some reputable individuals. Oh, and I hope we win of course.

Wow, what a week.

First up my band The Res got into the finals of the OzMusic awards and asked to Sydeny. Nice. My Brother Kav's band Eskimo Joe won the Aria for the best song of the year (basically the most popular song in Australia) for their tracks 'Black Fingernails, Red Wine'. Then my girl Sigrid found out her grandmother is in a coma so she left for Austria with one days notice. Full on.

I finally finished the 'Hz to Oz' track for Killamatic and his Belgian rapper crew. It sounds pretty great, very hooky.

Here are a bunch of my favourite shots from my phone. The WAMi song of the year awards that we were nominated for but didn't win. The opening of the Crush clothing store with hot model/dancers working it in underwear. Angel at the Crush opening. A shot of Georgia dressed as a Russian bride for the Moscow Disco party (she is now in Seattle). I'm crazy busy and havn't posted for a week or so. Here is an avalanche of stuff in my head.

I have been really digging all this HDR photography that's happening at the moment. It's a simple and fascinating technique that has only been possible with computers. Basically you take a few photos of something still at different apature settings then the computer makes one photo of them. This way you have extreme detail in all the colour range. No areas burn out. it's the opposite of HDR in computer games, even though it ends up looking a bit like computer graphics or a painting.

I have put a little collage together on some pics and here is the flickr pool of images. Awsome.

I recently got interviewed for an article by Paul Lokyer. he was investigating the influences of 80's music on todays music. If he wanted me to reinforce his ideas I think he asked the wrong man. He's a good friend so I'm sure he can hack it. And it goes a little something like this, HIT IT!:

Q1. Worldwide there's quite a few so-called '80s revivalist Bands' enjoying success eg. 'The Killers', 'The Bravery', Interpol'. 'Franz Ferdinand'. Which local performers do you think most wear their 80s influences on their sleeves?

1. Obviously my brothers band, Eskimo Joe. I hear 'Great southern Land' in 'Black fingernails, red wine' and the theme to 'Neverending Story' in 'Sarah'. I think they have done something interesting with it, but I'm biased. The new 'Little Birdy' album is very 80's, but I think the 80's flashback was first obvious in the electro scene. Bands like Scissor Sisters and Electric Six. the style is called electro clash. A lot of guys like Mylo and Moby began sampling 80's stuff a few years ago. I don't think it's very interesting to do it now. I'm disappointed with Little birdy for taking that predictable route. At least it doesn't sound like the Beatles (Hello!, Jet's new album). Now that has been done to death.

Q2. Whats your take on the effects the 80s have had, and continue to have on the local music scene- the influences you see in a) original live and recorded music, and b) electronic and dance-samples, remixes etc?

2. I think the rehashed 80's sound is part of the whole flippant Paris Hilton cultural trend. Everything got so deep and new age for a while. Kurt Cobain, Elliot Smith and Jeff Buckley were committing suicide. Wars were going on but no one was allowed to protest. What the fuck can people do. Well they said "what the fuck!". That's the attitude. It's a rebellion against giving a shit. I don't think the 80's had an effect on modern music. Modern music just sampled it. It was useful to express something. that's sampling. You grab from anywhere that gives you what you need to express what you want to say.

Q3. Current House mix's are borrowing fairly heavily from that era, whats the level of 80s influence you observe in today's D&B, and why?

3. There is a bit of an influence in D&B but not much. People like Jon B and bits of pendulum, but it's not a popular trend. Drum and Bass seems to be it's own culture. It is one of the rare styles that has not originated from the US. It is a pure Jamaican influenced English culture. It is culturally strong, it's trends are internal. Well that's my opinion.

Q4. What are the factors that you see are behind the current resurgence of interest in music from the 80s ?

4. Again, I don't think people are listening to music from the 80's, they are sampling from it, which is totally different. It's like wearing flares now and wearing them in the 60's. In the 60's they were rebellious and anarchistic. long hair and crazy flairs said something dramatic (originally before they were POPed), now they are just kitch and purely functional style. You use them as a sixties reference, to give a slight 60's vibe. They are a bit of a style joke. It's the same with 80's samples, it's a light hearted musical joke, a playfulness and a technique of using a bit of that 80's throwaway vibe. Who gives a fuq lets do coke and drink champers (or at least act like we just did).

Q5. Personally, what effects have that decade of music had on you in a creative sense ?

5. My early teen years were in the 80's so it was a big time. I was into INXS, Eurythmics, Dire Straits, The Cars... I'm not name dropping, I actually had the vinyl as a kid. I had to find decent groovy music with only 96FM to listen to. Eventually I got some mix tapes and heard some real shit (as in good). Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim, Bomb The bass, Cold Cut, Chicago Jack Tracks and acid house. These things were my music. I remember going to the music teacher in high school and playing her some house and saying this will be the music of the future. She hated it and said I didn't know what I was talking about. I hope she remembers me saying that (I doubt it). Music is better now. I fucking love it.

I like simple Zen like games like this. they're great in between complex creative projects (music and graphics jobs). It helps to generate new ideas and get perspective.

I normally cycle or hang with friends. It's good to have some kind of meditation that gets you away from your thoughts. This is one reason I like cycling. I ride through the city, if I lose concentration then I get hit by a car (and it hurts, trust me). That's what I call incentive, it seems to make me focus.

I am currently working on some corporate ID for composer Michael Pignéguy working in the Arab Emirates I'm trying to go for a hip corporate look. He is composing for orchestra.

I like to start with the business cards then go from there. I will also be developing a website. An interesting thing, you can't get MySpace in Arab Emirates There is some crazy Big Brother shit going on over there.

The Res has a heap of stuff happening in November. Our new manager Jeremy Balius is kickin' it into gear.

Crazy times indeed. I don't know where to start.

OK, my band website The Resonance Online has had a sweet upgrade. I went for a lighter style. The design seems a little controversial. The low contrast is a matter for contention, so is the strangely flashing pics. I feel quite good about it. I intend to to add some more new technology, like a bit of flash for the photos page and some underlying technology. Broadband is sweet.

I finally got my new Sony-Ericsson K800i mobile phone and have been going a bit photo crazy with the decent quality 3.2mega pixel camera. The recent Res gig at Kazino Royale gave me a few good targets. I haven't sorted the email checking ability of the phone, but I'm digging the MP3/AAC/Video player. I even have our last gig as a video on my phone, geeky, geek, geeek!

Piotre took some groovy photos of the James Bond themed gig too you can check them out on the photo page of the Res site.

Poor Bec (Res Singer) hurt her neck with all the post gig partying and had to cancel her gig with her other outfit Brash & Sassy. So good healing vibes to Bec.

Our new manager/collaborator Jeremy Balius and I have been kicking it into gear with lots of plans of world domination. The Internet has really thrown a spanner into the works for the music industry. So we are getting into some crazy ideas. We are going to do a few bootlegs for DJs to get some vibe, continue to increase our online presents and book some gigs for the Australian summer festival season. Jeremy has written a great press release of immense silliness that is sure to get some attention.

I have begun redesigning the Res site. The previous site is dark and a bit plain. I wanted to add some spice to it, give it a bit more weirdness and interaction and just express that things are happening. the MySpace page is now linked on the top. The background and content on MySpace will also get an update (I use the same background). I will have to get my web tech, Brett to help a bit, but it should come out sweet. Here is a preview. It'll be up soon..

MC Killamatic from the Belgian Rap crew Hz Family has been jamming in the Res studio. We should finally have some grooves done for his European release in the next week or so. MC Optamus from Downside should be adding to a Belgian/Aussie collab. I have a little mix of some of the pre-production rough ideas so you can get an idea. It includes a little bit of our 'Live&Let Die' bond theme for the Semikazi gig on the weekend. We hope to record this properly soon with jono's vocals. Here's the mix

Yeah get creative!

Here is something to get you started (click pic):

A strange thing happened. I was entering my Apra performances into their website, it takes ages but it gives me a nice perspective of work done and a bit of dosh. Here's the weird bit; normally at this time of the there are no payments. I looked at my reports and there was a $300 deposit from the US Apra for a track I wrote eight years ago. Now that I'm getting serious online it made me think about investing more time into publishing, soundtracks. kinda boring, but cool.

I am now the producer/editor of the OCAU podcast. This will enable me to hone my skills and develop a style. It's great to be involved in such an alive web community. I'm working on a new theme for their games reviews. with heaps of old school C64 and Nintendo sounds. Great fun.

On a slightly personal note, my girlfriend, Sig has extended her contract as a doctor in Perth. This is really cool. I like the idea of getting my stuff together enough to do some gigs or wk in Europe (she is Austrian) by the time she has to leave. I have so many friends over there. Hi to Torb, Andy, Geza, Brian, Marty, Tanya & Lucas, Michaela..heaps of really good friends.

I'm still waiting for MC Optamus (Scott from Downside) to get his rap together for this collab with MC Killermatic. My D&B remix is phat and heavy. We are also working on a new groove. We are using heaps of geek tech terms and making them cool, taking them out of context. I'm cutting up the beats and bleeps in sync with the rap. It's all in the details.

I'll have to work out how to post up audio, so you can check the works in progress.

More things are coming into place.

I have begun putting the OverclockersAustralia podcast together, working as their producer. This will enable them to get down to podcasting and give me a popular space to try out different sound ideas. I have already used some convolution reverb and spacialization to create a natural space (even though they in different parts of the country). I chose the Birdland Jazz Bar in New York as the OCAU space. In the future I may try backing music, new stings and themes and sound FX. The OverclockersAus crew seems to be getting more global. With the use of Skype people from all over the world are being involved in the show, live. It's definitely a new era. No satelite bullshit here. Balvinder Singh is a tabla/sitar player and producer that I have begun collaborating with. We plan on creating instrumental dub tracks, then getting a night together to play them. It's exciting stuff and we really connected on the type of things we wanted to do. I am excited to learn his perspective on writing rhythms and structuring tracks. He's cruisy, this should be fun. I had a meeting with video director Joachim Strand. We got all caffinated and brainstormed like the wind. We are definitely heading in the same direction. I also had a meeting with the people organising a gig at a new stylish club/bar called the Manor. I think we are going with a dubby eclectic feeling. So club style, but dope. The Res will be headlining some time in late September. VJzoo will be doing some VJing. It should be a trip. I might try and get Maarten the Belgian rapper (MC Killomatic) to do his track. The remix is sounding great.

Well, a few things have started to click together. I have put out the vibe to collaborate with other artists and I have had a bit too much success. Thankfully things have started to gel. I'm not sure if it will all happen, but I have a lot of enthusiasm from all involved. The concept started as a dance performance with Flutterby Productions. I would be composing music with the choreographer so the msuic seemed to come from the movements of the dancers (basically). Then I bumped into a reputable photographer who said he was wanting to shoot some moving bodies. Then a video producer said he wanted to do a video with me. So now I am trying to integrate all these into one. It could be wickid. A live dance performance with great lighting, being filmed professionally and shot pro with my music as a soundtrack to great passionate dance. It's a concept.

Here is a classic photo from my previous band the Audio Response Group (ARG). Res guitarist Paul Hines (Bass in ARG), guitarist Steve Hearne, Singer Devon Plumley and me. This shot would have been from about 2003, I think.

I have been trying to work out what this blog should be. I don't want to winge or dwell on sad thing. I want a space where I can jam my ideas. A perspective of where I'm at. Something I can look back on and get a big picture. A place where my inspiration hangs out. We will see.

While I'm in the zone I thought I would add a new post. I have been awed by the effects of net communication in the last few days. It is enabling so many people to expand their lives in ways that until now have not been possible. Even if they are physicall introverted. I also find it fascinating how people can just randomly check out you blog or MySpace and get in touch with you. Like the Chillian girl who contacted me from the first post or the bands that relate to the music I do and send messages. I have had people requesting tours in their countries. It's a great mad world.

Evening and welcome to the start of my blog. I am producing so many things a the moment that I thought I would link them all together here at my own little blog. I'm doing this through Google's Blogger because it links in with my gmail account and Picasa (great image viewer). This makes eveything easier.

I just took a cool Batman like shot with my phone (see left). I will try to post more eclectic pics from my life. Here is my photo album. Check it out and please leave comments.

To start here is a list of the projects I am involved in at the mo:

* The Resonance - the group, the main source. Checkout our website and our MySpace . I try to check MySpace once a week. so feel free to drop us a line, have a listen and add us as a buddy. The Res's next gig is Sept16th a the Swan Basement in Fremantle W.Australia.

* Collab with The Flutterby Dance Company. Ellen and I are working on the music and choreography for a piece. I hope to perform it with a decent PA system with serious subs. I want the audience to feel the movements through the subs.

* Currently doing a bit of production with a Belgian MC Killamatic. I can't find the link, but I'll put it up when I do. It's serious gangster rap in a Belgian styel (a bit of French and Dutch as well as English.

* Some of The Res music is being used by VJzoo on some of their projects.

* I am involved in a few Podcasts and Vidcasts that you can download for your MP3 player video player. The Overclocker Australia podcast theme at ocau.com. I am also collaboating on a video podcast being developed by TheTron of OCAU forum fame. Here is the site under development i386.tv

* Also, I'm helping design and organize the Semikazi gig 'Kazino Royale' a bond themed gig on the 16th at the Swan Basement. Here is the poster I have done. The Res will be performing a heavy breaks version of Paul McCartney's 'Live & Let Die'. It rocks.

Ahh, there is more stuff, but those are the major projects in full swing. I will probably remember something majorly important that I forgot. Feel free to leave comments and point me to your own blogs.
